Say No to 50,000sqft Tesla Service Center

Save Asana Neighborhood Image

This website is a platform for the Meadowfair and surrounding communities to unite and oppose the construction of the Tesla Service Center right next to 250 residential homes and the popular Arcadia Ballpark softball fields. The proposed Tesla Service Center would bring increased traffic, dangerous speeding, noise pollution, safety hazards, and a general decline in the quality of life. We urge you to join us in taking a stand for our neighborhood!

All signs point to the San Jose City Council approving the 3.6 acre Tesla Service Center unless they hear from you soon.

The Planning Commission and City Council need to know your concerns about the unacceptable impact of the proposed Tesla Service Center

  • Dangers to kids, pedestrians and cyclists from traffic, plus a lack of any meaningful road safety improvements
  • Tesla proven track record for irresponsible disposal of hazardous waste in more than 25 California counties
  • No existing Tesla Service Center is located within a residential area in California.

The Tesla Service Center Project

A large Tesla Service Center is proposed for construction on a vacant lot within our residential community. The development will be 49,630 square feet and is located 40 feet away from homes.

Our Concerns

  • Improper Disposal of Hazardous Waste. Tesla has repeatedly shown its disregard for the communities they operate in through their improper disposal of hazardous waste.

Per the San Francisco Chronicle, Tesla agreed to pay $1.5M to settle hazardous cases brought forth by California prosecutors. The district attorneys from every Bay Area county except Napa joined 17 other California district attorneys to bring the suit alleging that Tesla violated several state regulations surrounding the storage, disposal and management of hazardous waste.

Per the San Francisco Chronicle, “Specifically, Tesla was accused of failing to determine whether its waste was hazardous, disposing hazardous waste into transfer stations or landfills not permitted to handle it and not properly labeling containers holding hazardous waste, among other violations.

This is not the first time Tesla has shown a lack of responsibility towards hazardous waste disposal:

    • In 2017, the Environmental Protection Agency performed inspections at Tesla facilities and found the company was not properly managing its hazardous waste. Tesla also settled in this case as well.
    • In 2018, undercover investigators with the district attorney's office discovered Tesla was still illegally disposing hazardous waste. This also resulted in a lawsuit and a permanent injunction order.

    Links to articles:

  • There are 250 single-family homes right across the street from the proposed site. Leyva Middle school is also adjacent to the proposed site. Tesla history of battery fires and improper disposal of hazardous waste pose a significant rest to those living in and around the proposed site.

    Notable incidents:

  • There will be lasting harm to the safety and quality of life for Meadowfair residents and businesses.

Our Hopes

  • Of course we want business to thrive within Meadowfair and more importantly East San Jose. The residents of Meadowfair DO want strong and economically viable businesses but not at the expense of the safety of our elders, children and quality of life of our residents.

We envision a community center similar to the original Evergreen Circle Plan that combines shopping, entertainment, restaurants and health clubs.

  • Instead, San Jose should create a vibrant village that will service the whole community and align with San Jose's 2040 Plan and Urban Village plan of transit and neighbor-friendly businesses. Tesla definitely does NOT align with these.

Our Call to Action for the City of San Jose

We call on San Jose City Planners and City Council members: VOTE NO on the Tesla Service Center Project. Endorse instead a more forward thinking and appropriate alternatives that will transform Evergreen Circle and Meadowfair into a community friendly mixed use Urban Village consistent with the Envision San Jose 2040 plan.
