I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposed development, PD23-017 by Arcadia Development, specifically the inclusion of a Tesla dealership in our community.
While we understand the importance of economic growth and development, we strongly believe that introducing a Tesla dealership poses a danger to the community and does not align with the character and needs of our densely populated East San Jose community.
Tesla is primarily known for online car sales, and we are apprehensive about the compatibility of a car dealership with our community's current landscape. Additionally, Tesla has proven to be consistently irresponsible in its handling of hazardous waste and raises extreme concerns for the safety and well-being of our community.
Looking ahead, our community is anticipating the development of the future Kaiser medical offices which emphasizes the need for careful planning to ensure a well-balanced and functional environment. We urge the city to consider diversifying the amenities in our area, prioritizing essential services such as restaurants, recreational activities, and childcare facilities that cater to the needs of our residents.
By fostering a diverse range of businesses and services, we can create a more vibrant and resilient community that meets the evolving needs of its residents. I kindly request that the city takes these concerns into consideration during the evaluation of PD23-017 and encourages development that aligns with the long-term vision for our community.
Of most concern, building a Tesla service center in a residential area raises valid concerns about the potential hazards it poses to the community. Such facilities often handle hazardous materials, including batteries and other electronic components, which can pose significant health risks to our community and adjacent schools and establishments. Residents in the vicinity may be exposed to harmful substances, such as lead, lithium, and other toxic chemicals, leading to potential long-term health consequences.
The improper disposal of hazardous waste, as alleged in the lawsuit against Tesla, further exacerbates environmental and health risks for the surrounding community. Furthermore, the increased traffic and activity associated with a service center could disrupt the tranquility of a residential neighborhood and pose safety hazards for pedestrians and motorists alike. Noise pollution from vehicle maintenance activities and the transportation of materials can disturb residents' peace and negatively impact their quality of life.
Furthermore, the potential for accidents, such as spills or fires involving hazardous materials, raises concerns about the safety of the community and the effectiveness of emergency response measures in such a densely populated area. Overall, siting a Tesla service center in a residential setting can jeopardize the well-being of residents and the environment. Tesla's consistent irresponsibility calls for proactive action in halting any future movement of this work.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I appreciate your commitment to making informed decisions that positively impact our community.
